Steady Parent

Become the parent you want to be — under pressure

A 6 week small group yoga immersion to build lasting steadiness, presence, and choice in parenthood

You know the parent you want to be.

Present for your kids.

Supporting them in becoming who they are.

Guiding them, not controlling them.

To be a steady anchor in the wild swings of life.

But when parenthood gets hard, you may find yourself feeling reactive or controlling—or simply feeling lost about what to do.

You already know how you want to respond.

But under pressure, it can be surprisingly hard to access that version of yourself—and the guilt and resentment that follow can also chip away at your sense of connection with your family.

Over time, a gap develops: between the parent you want to be — and the parent who shows up under pressure.

It’s as if your values don't quite translate into the messy complexity of day-to-day life.

And maybe you’re left thinking: “I’m trying so hard, but I’m still not getting this right”.

The demands of modern parenthood have accumulated so gradually that we often experience them as normal.

They become invisible.

We don't necessarily recognize how much we're carrying until we can't carry anymore.

And parenthood is dynamic and constantly changing.

Today your child needs something completely different from what they needed yesterday.

Your own capacity changes. Family circumstances change.

And you're navigating all of this alongside work, technology, cultural expectations, endless decisions, and the pressure to get parenting "right."

Parenthood doesn't happen under ideal conditions.

Despite our best intentions, life always throws the unexpected our way. And when that happens, our values don't always translate neatly into action.

You might strive to be emotionally regulated with your kids.

But then two illnesses and a week of disrupted sleep later…

You're operating under completely different conditions.

Under these conditions, many of us try harder.

We read parenting books. Listen to podcasts. Seek advice. Look for another strategy that might help us handle the next hard thing. All of these can be valuable.

Information can tell us what we might want to do.

But knowing isn't always the same as being able to access that choice when we're in the middle of a hard moment, day, or week.

Yoga offers something different.

the capacity to notice what's happening in your body and mind in real time

to discern what matters

to translate your values into action in the moment.

Yoga works through a wise, timeless philosophy of how to relate to ourselves, our families, our limits, and our choices in the world around us.

With regular yoga practice —physical and through self-study — you develop the capacity to notice what's happening in you, discern what matters, and make choices in real time—without needing an external prescription for what a “good parent” should do.

What if becoming the parent you want to be —doesn't mean getting it right all the time?

Being the parent you want to be under pressure means living in accordance with your values — flexibly.

There's a huge difference between
"I want to be a patient parent"
and
"I value patience."

When you can translate and adapt your values, there is so much less pressure to always "get it right."

Let’s say that you value connection.

The way you express that value might look different in each situation.

Being the parent you want to be doesn’t mean nailing it 100% of the time.

There just isn’t a script for every possible situation.

How might that look when your child is...

Calm?

Melting down?

Or if you’re…

Exhausted?

Late?

Overstimulated?

The goal then, is not to respond perfectly.

It’s to respond in alignment with your values.

And that awareness gives you lead time — more space to respond, instead of react.

And yoga offers a philosophy for how to live.

Through self-observation and reflection, it offers a path towards clarity—in how to act in the world, according to your purpose, as well as cultivating nonjudgmental awareness and releasing attachment to outcomes.

This is what makes yoga uniquely suited to parents:

In a world of information overload and disembodiment, yoga offers a path back to integration—of mind, body, and action.

And sometimes, you'll realize afterward that you could have acted differently.

When that happens, yoga offers another practice: returning.

Returning to awareness.
Returning to yourself.
Returning with compassion, and without judgment.

It’s more realistic—and more valuable—given the constant change of parenthood.

With practice, yoga gives you lead time.

When you gain embodied awareness through physical yoga practice, you start to notice earlier signals in your body.

The change in muscular tension.
Your jaw.
Your breath.

With practice, you can trust yourself to meet the conditions of parenthood in alignment with your values.

Not perfectly.

Flexibly.

With this flexibility comes more clarity.

More ease.

Less second-guessing.

More space for yourself, and more room for connection.

This is what Steady Parent is designed to help you practice.

Through Steady Parent, you'll learn to inhabit your body and understand your mind non-judgmentally—so that you can show up in the present moment and act in alignment with your values.

Day One

Six weeks. Five conditions. One different way of meeting parenthood.

Steady Parent is a six-week live online small-group experience where you'll explore the conditions that make parenthood hard—and practice meeting them with greater awareness, flexibility, and alignment.

Session are live online on Zoom, 6:30-7:30 pm ET

Week 1:

9:00 – 9:30am

Week 2:

11:00am

Week 3:

12:30pm

Week 4:

2:00pm

Week 5:

6:30pm

Week 6:

Steady Parent isn’t a course you watch.

It’s a practice you live.

Each week, we'll explore one condition of parenthood through 4 cornerstones:

Embodied Practice

Develop embodied awareness and learn to notice patterns in your body and mind.

Guided Inquiry

You'll investigate how each condition shows up in your own experience, without judgment.

Group Discussion

You'll have space to reflect, share, listen, and learn from other parents navigating the same terrain.

Yoga Teachings/Lens/ Philosophy

You'll encounter ideas from the yoga tradition that offer new ways of understanding yourself, your limits, your relationships, and your choices.

You’ll reflect on a specific situation, or situations, in your life where these teachings could be applied.

Day Two

Then, the most important part:

The practice continues off the mat.

Between sessions, you’ll have access to a platform where you can share your practice — what you learned, what worked, what was less successful.

It’s a place to share in community with other parents.

You’ll also have access to a daily movement practice – two options (pranayam or asana, lengths)

Then you take the practice home.

Each week, you'll identify a real situation coming up in your own life where you want to experiment with what you've explored.

Then you'll create a personal practice—a combination of embodied practice, applying a teaching from yoga, and reflection—to experiment with in that situation.

Between sessions, you'll have a space to reflect and what you're noticing, what you're trying, and what you're learning.

You can expect about 20 minutes of practice (physical + reflection)…

Over the 6 weeks, you’re not learning “5 ways” to handle parenthood.

You’re learning to develop your own personal practice - on and off the mat, so you can show up with more steadiness, presence, and choice going forward.

It's to help you develop a practice for meeting whatever parenthood brings.

The goal isn't to give you another set of rules for how to parent.
